Tuesday, January 10, 2012

This morning, we continued learning about the Gospel of Mark in Bible class with Mr. Sandeep and enjoyed a dramatic reading of chapters 7-9.  Afterwards, Mrs. Wasik answered a student's question about dinosaurs.  Our neighbouring province of Drumheller, Alberta is home to the richest deposits of fossils and dinosaur bones in North America!  We also read an interesting current event article about the discovery of dinosaur feathers.  Mrs. Wasik reminded students of Romans 1:20, "For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that mankind is without excuse."

We were also reminded that the Bible includes many genres of literature, but that all of it is the inspired word of God and we can be confident in its reliability and truth.  Genesis is not a science textbook, instead, and more importantly, it answers the question, "Why were we created?" not necessarily "How?"
Mrs. Wasik then read from Ephesians 1: "For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he chose us for adoption [as His sons and daughters] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will - to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves."  We were encouraged that whether we interpret the creation story as happening in six 24-hour days, or over millions of years, it is of less importance than the truth that we were created by God, in His image and for His purposes, because He loves us.

Mrs. Johnson joined us for Art class after recess and we worked on our chigiri-e and line/circle colouring projects.  Mrs. Wasik reminded us to work to the best of our abilities and demonstrate positive leadership for God's glory, as this benefits both ourselves and our classmates.  After lunch we marked our math homework, and worked on today's assignments while the grade sixes completed their unit test.  We continued our discussion about dinosaurs at the end of the day and prayed together, praising God for His awesome creation.
