Westside Christian School Family Gatherings

Throughout the academic year the school family celebrates their community with informal potluck dinners and BBQs. Parents, students and siblings all come together to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the shared vision of Westside Christian School. This larger community also unites for the Christmas program and end of year celebrations. We have also been known to go for weekend camping trips as a larger group, which provides for wonderful memories.

Team-building

For the students of Westside Christian School, we start the year with a week of team–building events that sets the tone of cooperation and friendly competition that continues throughout the year. Students are placed into multi-age teams and work together all year to “win” various challenges. It may be making sandcastles at the beach or composing an original song or winning a relay race. The winning team is announced in our June celebration.

Advent Celebration

In the month of December, the children enjoy the advent season as every morning we gather around our Jesse Tree to read a Bible passage and place a hand-made ornament on the tree. Our Advent celebration culminates with the Christmas performance, which highlights our Arts program, and each child contributes to this very special night.

Electives Week

Electives Week occurs in February. Students can choose from a wide assortment of skills and activities to explore and everyone learns something new. Wrestling, computer animation, golf, cooking, dance and gardening are just a few of the popular options. This is the highlight of the year for many of the students, as it not only expands their horizons, it is just plain fun!

Annual Medieval Faire

Every spring we hold our annual Medieval Faire where our school grounds are transformed into a medieval village. Jousting, shield making, catapult throw and the singing contest “Medieval Quest” are just a few of the highlights. This event is open to University of British Columbia and the surrounding community.

Chapel Services

Chapel service is held every Friday, and each class takes a turn in leading the school in worship and teaching. Guest speakers, faculty and student leaders bring a variety of messages and topics relevant to student life.

Theme Days and other Special Events

There are numerous special events that individual classrooms enjoy, such as shared lunch days, Hot Dog Fridays, Missions Fest, field trips and birthday celebrations. And once a month we have theme days where you might find our students dressed as sport fans or crazy tourists.

The children of Westside Christian School love to have fun. And we believe that hard work balanced with laughter ministers to the whole person and brings joy to our Lord.
